He graduated from Kobe University with a master’s degree in engineering in March 1980, and joined Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) in April the same year.

In January 2005, he was appointed executive chief engineer of Toyota
Development Center 1 at TMC.
In June 2008, he became a managing officer of TMC, and executive vice president of Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. (TEMA, formerly TTC).
In May 2011, he was made president and chief operating officer of TEMA.
In June 2013, he became a member of the board of directors.
In June 2015, he became an executive vice president, and a member of the board of directors.
In January 2021,he became a Member of the Board of Directors, Executive Fellow
